5 Major Blogging Platforms to Make Money In 2024 And Beyond.

Before we can be able to ascertain the five major blogging platforms to make money in 2024 and beyond, there are a few questions we need to answer and they are:
— What do we mean by blogging platforms?
— And how can we choose the right blogging platform?
Then let’s begin by answering these two major questions

Before answering this particular question properly let us begin by knowing what a blog is all about.
A blog is a type of website or a section of a website where regularly updated content, often in the form of articles or posts, is published.

Then blogging platforms refer to online services or software that enable individuals, businesses, or organizations to create and manage a blog.

Within these kinds of platforms, some tools and features will enable individuals to write, edit, and organize content without requiring extensive technical knowledge.
Then the second question is, how can we choose the right blogging platform?

There are numerous reasons why choosing the right blogging platform is crucial. Below are some key reasons highlighting the importance of selecting the right platform:

i) User Experience:
A well-chosen platform enhances the overall user experience for both the blogger and the audience. An intuitive interface, easy navigation, and responsive design contribute to a positive user experience.

ii) Customization and Branding:
Consistent branding helps in building recognition and trust among the audience.

iii) Scalability:
The chosen platform should be scalable to accommodate the blog’s growth. This includes the ability to handle increased traffic, add new features, and adapt to changing needs over time.

iv) Monetization Opportunities:
If you are looking to make money as a blogger, selecting a platform with robust monetization options is crucial. Whether through ads, affiliate marketing, or subscriptions, the platform should support the blogger’s chosen revenue streams.

v) SEO Friendliness:
A platform with built-in SEO tools and features can contribute to better search rankings, driving organic traffic to the blog.

vi) Community and Support:
A supportive community will ensure that bloggers have access to assistance when facing technical issues or seeking advice on optimizing their blogs.

vii) Ownership and Control:
You need to choose a platform that allows for easy export of content or transition to a self-hosted solution that provides flexibility and security.

viii) Integration with External Tools:
Bloggers often use external tools, such as analytics, email marketing, and social media management platforms. Choosing a blogging platform that integrates seamlessly with these tools streamlines the overall blogging workflow.

ix) Security and Updates:
Regular updates and security features help guard against potential threats, ensuring a safe online environment.

x) Adaptability to Trends:
Due to the rapidly evolving digital landscape, it is paramount to choose the right platform that is adaptable to emerging trends and technologies, so that bloggers could be able to stay relevant and take advantage of new opportunities.

In summary, you should look at it as a strategic decision to choose the right blogging platform that impacts the blog’s functionality, visibility, and potential for success.
Bloggers should carefully consider their goals, target audience, and technical requirements to choose a platform that aligns with their needs and aspirations.

Having said that, let’s examine the criteria for evaluating the right blogging platforms

a). User-Friendliness:
The Blogging platforms should be designed to be user-friendly, making it easy for individuals without technical expertise to create and manage their blogs.

b). Customization Options:
There should be room for bloggers to personalize the appearance of their blogs by selecting themes, layouts, and color schemes. Some platforms allow for more advanced customization through coding or theme editing.

c). Monetization Features:
Blogging platforms should offer built-in monetization features, such as ad placement, affiliate marketing integration, or subscription models, allowing bloggers to earn income from their content.

d). SEO Capabilities:
As we all know search engine optimization (SEO) features help bloggers improve the visibility of their content on search engines. This includes features like meta tags, customizable URLs, and sitemaps.
So, these blogging platforms should have built-in SEO features and tools to enable blog posts to rank well on search results.

e). Community and Support:
There should be features for readers to leave comments on blog posts, thereby fostering interaction between the blogger and the audience.

NOW IS THE TIME TO LOOK INTO THE 5 MAJOR BLOGGING PLATFORMS TO MAKE MONEY IN 2024 AND BEYOND:

There is one particular issue here people do misunderstand which is the difference between WordPress.org and WordPress.com.
For our information, these platforms are quite two different platforms with separate features and configurations.

Before the overview of WordPress as a CMS (content management system) for blogging, let us examine the difference between the two.
Below are the key differences between WordPress.org and WordPress.com:

— WordPress.com:- WordPress.com is a hosting service provided by Automattic (the company behind WordPress). Your website is hosted on its servers, and you don’t need to worry about managing the server or dealing with technical aspects of hosting.

ii) Customization:
— WordPress.org:- It offers complete freedom in terms of customization. You can install custom themes, and plugins, and modify the code to tailor your site to your specific needs. This is ideal for users who want full control over their website.

— WordPress.com:- Customization options on WordPress.com are more limited, especially on the free and lower-tier plans. You can choose from a selection of themes, but you can’t upload custom themes. The ability to install plugins is also restricted unless you’re on a higher-tier plan.

iii) Monetization:
— WordPress.org:- You have full control over how you monetize your website. You can run ads, use affiliate marketing, sell products, and more without any restrictions.

— WordPress.com:- On the free and lower-tier plans, WordPress.com may display its ads on your site. To remove these ads and have more control over monetization options, you need to upgrade to a paid plan.

iv) Domain Name:
— WordPress.org:- You need to purchase and manage your domain name (e.g yourwebsite.com).

— WordPress.com:- On the free plan, your domain will include “wordpress.com” (e.g yourwebsite.wordpress.com). To use a custom domain without the “wordpress.com” part, you’ll need to upgrade to a paid plan.

v) Maintenance:
— WordPress.org:- You are responsible for the maintenance of your site, including software updates, backups, and security measures.

— WordPress.com:- Basic maintenance tasks, such as updates and backups, are taken care of by WordPress.com. This can be convenient for users who don’t want to deal with the technical aspects of website management.

To summarize the whole thing, if you want full control, flexibility, and the ability to customize your site extensively, WordPress.org is a better choice.

If you rather prefer a simpler solution with hosting taken care of and are willing to trade some customization options for convenience, WordPress.com might be more suitable.

Based on the vivid elaboration of the difference between WordPress.org and WordPress.com, we should come to understand that professionalism will be more achieved with WordPress.org so, our blogging platform between the two is WordPress.org.

then let’s do the overview of WordPress.org.

Plus its flexibility, extensive community support, and constant evolution contribute to its widespread adoption as a blogging and content management platform.

Blogger is a popular and user-friendly blogging platform owned by Google. It was launched in 1999 and has since become one of the most widely used platforms for individuals and small businesses to create and manage their blogs. Here’s an overview of some key aspects of Blogger:

Since Blogger is owned by Google, it seamlessly integrates with other Google services, such as Google AdSense for monetization, Google Analytics for tracking blog traffic, and Google Drive for easy media storage.

Blogger allows users to monetize their blogs through Google AdSense. This enables bloggers to earn money by displaying ads on their sites, making it a potential source of income for those looking to monetize their content.

While not as extensive as some other platforms, Blogger does provide a range of customization options.
Users can choose from a variety of templates, and there’s a simple drag-and-drop interface for arranging page elements.
Additionally, users can edit the HTML and CSS of their blogs for more advanced customization.

PROS OF BLOGGER
Free and Easy to Use: Blogger is a free platform that is particularly user-friendly, making it an excellent choice for beginners.
The straightforward interface allows users to create and manage a blog without the need for technical expertise.

Integration with Google Services: Being a Google product, Blogger seamlessly integrates with various Google services, such as Google AdSense for monetization and Google Analytics for tracking blog statistics.
This integration can simplify tasks like managing ads and monitoring website traffic.

While Blogger is a solid choice for beginners and casual bloggers, it may not offer the advanced features and customization options that some more sophisticated bloggers might seek.
Nevertheless, for those looking for a straightforward and free platform, Blogger remains a reliable choice.

CONS OF BLOGGER:
Limited Design Options:
Blogger offers a limited range of templates and design customization options compared to some other blogging platforms.
While there are some customizable features, users might find it challenging to create a unique and highly personalized look for their blogs.

This limitation can be a drawback for those who prioritize a distinctive and professional appearance for their blogs.

Ownership and Control:
Blogger is a platform owned by Google. While this association provides certain advantages, such as integration with other Google services, it also means that users have less control over their content and the overall platform.

Google can change or discontinue Blogger at any time, and users might face challenges migrating their content to another platform if needed.
This lack of full ownership and control can be a concern for serious bloggers who want more autonomy over their blogs.

Introduction to Medium:
Medium is a popular online publishing platform that was launched in 2012. It was founded by Evan Williams, one of the co-founders of Twitter.

Medium is designed to provide a user-friendly space for writers, bloggers, and content creators to share their thoughts, stories, and expertise with a wider audience. Here’s an overview of some key aspects of Medium:

a). User-Friendly Interface:
Medium is known for its clean and simple user interface. The focus is on the content, with a minimalistic design that enhances the reading experience.

b). Writing And Publishing:
Users can easily create and publish articles on Medium. The platform provides a distraction-free writing environment, making it straightforward for writers to focus on their content.

c). Distribution And Discoverability:
Medium aims to help writers reach a broader audience by providing a platform for content discovery.
Articles are categorized into topics, and the platform uses an algorithm to recommend articles to users based on their interests and reading history.

d). Membership Program:

Medium offers a subscription-based membership program called Medium Membership.
Subscribers pay a monthly fee to access exclusive content, ad-free reading, and other perks.
Writers can earn money through the Medium Partner Program, where they receive a share of the subscription revenue based on engagement with their articles.

e). Social Features:
Readers can highlight and comment on specific sections of articles, fostering engagement and discussion.
Writers can also respond to comments directly within the platform.

f). Customization And Branding:
While Medium provides a standardized format for articles, writers can add images, embed multimedia, and use some basic formatting options to enhance their content.
However, the platform doesn’t allow extensive customization compared to self-hosted blogs.

g). Monetization:
In addition to earning through the Medium Partner Program, writers can make use of the Partner Program for Publications.
This allows publications (collections of articles) to earn money based on the engagement of their content.

h). Open Platform:
Medium is an open platform, meaning that anyone can write and publish content. This openness contributes to a diverse range of voices and topics on the platform.

i). Mobile Accessibility:
Medium is accessible via web browsers, and there are also mobile apps available for both iOS and Android, making it convenient for users to read and write on the go.

While Medium has gained popularity for its simplicity and content discovery features, it’s essential to note that it may not be the best fit for everyone, especially those seeking extensive customization or full control over their platform.

What makes writers often choose Medium is because of its ease of use, built-in audience, and potential for earning through the subscription-based model.

I started with Blogger when I was starting in the early years of 2008 as a beginner in blogging.
I created a whole lot of blogging platforms which helped me understand the trajectory involved in blogging.

A great place to start for beginners because this platform gave me insights into what blogging is all about. Those days, I was following an Australian blogger known as Yaro Starak on Entrepreneur.com.

But you have to know that, having to host your niche is a great way to professionalism. And people will take you more seriously.

More of a website builder functionality but recently integrated blogging platform opportunities.
Never used WIX before but it is a great platform and you can try your hands out there I think you will never regret doing so.

Popularly known for its user-friendly interface. Built for writers, bloggers, researchers, and many of the people who deal with creative content.

Have tried medium before but did not like it not because of its popularity but because I wanted something professional for me that I could take control of.
And that is having my platform. I advise you to look into medium and you will be glad you did.

The future trends in blogging platforms are likely to be shaped by advancements in technology, changing user preferences, and the evolving landscape of online content creation.

One notable trend is the increasing emphasis on immersive and interactive content experiences. Traditional text-based blogs may incorporate more multimedia elements, such as augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR), to provide readers with a more engaging and dynamic experience.

This shift towards interactive content could redefine the way bloggers communicate with their audiences, creating more immersive storytelling opportunities.

Additionally, artificial intelligence (AI) is expected to play a significant role in the future of blogging platforms.
AI-driven tools can enhance content creation by assisting bloggers with tasks like automated content generation, personalized content recommendations, and improved search engine optimization (SEO).

These technologies may also contribute to more efficient content curation and audience engagement strategies.
As the online landscape continues to evolve, blogging platforms that successfully integrate these emerging trends are likely to offer creators and readers innovative and enriched experiences, shaping the future of the blogging ecosystem.

a). Emerging Technologies (Blockchain, AI):

In the realm of blogging platforms, emerging technologies like blockchain and artificial intelligence (AI) are poised to bring transformative changes.

Blockchain can enhance the transparency and security of content distribution by providing a decentralized and tamper-proof system for tracking and verifying digital assets, potentially preventing issues like content plagiarism and ensuring authentic attribution.

Meanwhile, AI offers bloggers advanced tools for content creation, curation, and personalization.
With AI-driven features, blogging platforms can automate tasks such as content recommendations based on user preferences, optimize search engine visibility, and even assist in generating engaging and relevant content.

Integrating these emerging technologies into blogging platforms has the potential to revolutionize the way content is created, shared, and consumed, fostering a more secure, efficient, and personalized experience for both creators and readers.

b). Content Formats (Video, Podcasts):
The landscape of blogging platforms is undergoing a dynamic shift with the rising prominence of diverse content formats, particularly video and podcasts.

Video content has become a powerful medium for bloggers, allowing them to convey information, share stories, and engage with their audience in a more visually compelling way.

Blogging platforms are increasingly incorporating features to seamlessly integrate and showcase video content alongside traditional written posts.

Additionally, the surge in popularity of podcasts has influenced blogging platforms to accommodate audio content. Bloggers now leverage podcasts to deliver their insights, interviews, and discussions, providing an alternative mode of consumption for users who prefer audio formats.

As blogging platforms continue to evolve, the integration of these versatile content formats enriches the user experience, catering to the diverse preferences of modern audiences and expanding the creative possibilities for content creators.

c). Globalization of Blogging:
The globalization of blogging on various platforms has ushered in a new era of interconnectedness and cultural exchange.
Bloggers, once confined to local or regional audiences, now can reach a global readership through the expansive reach of the internet.

This phenomenon has not only diversified the topics covered but has also allowed for the sharing of diverse perspectives, experiences, and insights from around the world.

Blogging platforms have played a pivotal role in facilitating this global exchange by providing tools for translation, multilingual content creation, and seamless cross-border sharing.

As a result, the blogosphere has become a melting pot of ideas and a platform for fostering cross-cultural understanding, enabling individuals from different corners of the globe to connect, learn, and engage in conversations that transcend geographical boundaries.

d). Integration With Social Media:
Integration with social media has become a cornerstone of modern blogging platforms, fundamentally altering the way content is shared, discovered, and engaged with.
Blogging platforms now seamlessly connect with popular social media networks, allowing bloggers to share their content directly to platforms like Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and more.

This integration not only amplifies the reach of blog posts but also fosters community engagement as readers can easily share, comment, and interact with content across various social channels.

Moreover, many blogging platforms feature social media widgets and embedding options, enabling the incorporation of real-time feeds and social sharing buttons, thus enhancing the overall visibility and accessibility of blog content.
The symbiotic relationship between blogging and social media has become a powerful synergy, transforming individual blogs into dynamic hubs that thrive on the interconnected nature of the digital landscape.

Consistent content creation is a cornerstone of successful blogging, forming the backbone of a blogger’s relationship with their audience.
It involves regularly producing and publishing high-quality, relevant, and engaging content to maintain reader interest and build a loyal following.

Consistency not only establishes a blogger’s credibility but also contributes to improved search engine rankings and visibility. Regular updates signal to both readers and search engines that the blog is active and committed, fostering trust and loyalty among the audience.

However, maintaining a consistent content creation schedule can be challenging, requiring effective time management, planning, and creativity. Bloggers who prioritize a steady flow of content, while ensuring its quality, often experience greater success in growing their audience and achieving long-term blogging objectives.

My strategy for years as a pro-blogger is to post at least one article every week. And I bet if you do the same for twelve months you will be successful blogging.

Building a brand as a blogger is a multifaceted endeavor that goes beyond crafting compelling content.
It involves establishing a distinct identity, voice, and visual style that resonates with a target audience.

Consistency in messaging, aesthetics, and values is key to cultivating brand recognition and trust. Successful bloggers leverage various platforms and social media channels to amplify their brand presence, engage with followers, participate in relevant conversations, and promote their content strategically.

Building a brand also requires authenticity, as readers are drawn to genuine voices and transparent narratives.
Over time, a strong brand becomes synonymous with the blogger’s expertise, values, and the unique value they bring to their audience, contributing to long-term loyalty and credibility in the competitive landscape of online content creation.

Engaging with the audience is a crucial aspect of successful blogging that transcends mere content creation.
Bloggers who actively connect with their audience through comments, social media interactions, and community forums foster a sense of community and loyalty.

Responding to comments, asking for feedback, and addressing audience queries not only strengthens the blogger-reader relationship but also demonstrates a commitment to two-way communication. Additionally, involving the audience in the creative process by seeking input on topics or conducting polls creates a sense of inclusivity.

Successful engagement extends beyond the blog itself, often involving social media platforms to share behind-the-scenes glimpses, personal anecdotes, and timely updates.

By consistently interacting with their audience, bloggers create a dynamic, interactive space that enhances reader satisfaction and contributes to the overall success and growth of their blogging endeavors.

Diversifying income streams is a strategic approach that savvy bloggers adopt to create a sustainable and resilient revenue model.

Beyond traditional methods like ad revenue and sponsored content, bloggers explore various avenues such as affiliate marketing, selling digital products, offering online courses, and engaging in collaborations.

By diversifying, bloggers can mitigate the risks associated with reliance on a single source of income while tapping into multiple channels that align with their expertise and audience interests.

This not only enhances financial stability but also allows bloggers to cater to different segments of their audience, providing valuable products or services that complement their content.
Successful income diversification requires a keen understanding of the target audience, strategic partnerships, and a commitment to delivering quality offerings that align with the blogger’s brand and mission.

Though Medium is seen as the number one blogging platform on the internet. In my own opinion, the medium is not a good choice for me because it does not even guarantee all the qualities I need as a professional blogger.

As a pro-blogger or aspiring to be a pro-blogger, I would like to build my platform by leveraging the existence of platforms like WordPress.org.

But if you are on the starting side and do not have the expertise or the resources to start with, I advise you to leverage free platforms like SUBSTACK, BLOGGER, and the rest of them which can help you build your brand and audience.

Just like I mentioned above, I would like to foster my professionalism as a pro-blogger. But if I’m to start as a beginner just like I did way back in 2008.

I will leverage platforms like BLOGGER(a great way for beginners), and substack to build my email followers. Then as I graduate with my expertise and experience and would like to be recognized as a professional. I will leverage the features of this great platform WordPress.org as a CMS(content management system).

No two ways about it, to start a blog in 2024 and beyond, find your niche by keyword research analysis, buy domain and hosting, and make sure you have at least eight to ten content created already before building your platform.

Then, create your platform after that, start posting consistently.
