Growing up among parents who are civil servants is like growing up amid people who know they need the money but are afraid to talk about what they need and how to go get it.
They know this exchange called money is necessary for growth in life still, they resort and are satisfied with being given a token that will see them scale through every day in life. And they call it a working routine.
Every day in our life was all about quarrelling and malice because, when the monthly token rolls in, obviously it would not be enough to pay for the debt incurred previously, talk more of planning for the current month in which it was paid for.
I can recall my school fees were paid under the influence of anger and abuse due to insufficiency after the money might have been deducted. I can still remember going back to school with tears in my eyes instead of joy like most of my colleagues did.
It wasn’t enough in the family in the sense that everybody was entangled by the scarcity mentality for years. All I kept on hearing from my parents those days was to go to school, study hard get a good grade and join us in the same rat race of the working community.
Even when I demand an increase in my pocket money which is always a fraction of a penny, I will be refuted to the extent that I will be afraid to demand for little money even when it is genuine for my school projects.
I languished in fear of being scolded by my parents due to insufficiency in terms of money within the family.
This bored a deep hole in my heart of believing that there is no need for this thing called money but still, at the back of my mind, I know it’s the only means to have whatever you need in life.
No wonder, that is why social heredity coming from parents is the perfect way to impact that in which you need to stick to a child’s mind for a long time. If not for a lifetime.
So, these ideas of forgetting about money even though you cannot do without it, engraved in my mind and coming from my parents, socially influenced me to the extent of not liking where they are talking about money.
With this influence, I thought that one day money would come looking for me. But since then, I’ve been the one and only slave to money while money has been my master for so many years.
Did this poor money mindset take hold of my entire lifetime? No! I eventually figured out a way to get out of this mess. One of the first influential steps I took which is very positive is to learn from individuals who have been in the same situation as mine.
I started reading so many books most especially coming from the financial niche. I discovered a very big loophole where those financial experts are not doing great work.
That is our belief toward money(emotional, psychological, and spiritual aspects of money.) Those financial experts were busy elaborating on the budgetary aspect of money management.
Without offering a holistic view of money that goes beyond the surface-level discussions commonly found in financial literature.
Thereby leaving the foundation of knowledge about money behind which is responsible for the disastrous management and acquisition of money by many individuals today.
And I finally came up with a formula I called THE MONEY MINDSET EQUATION which is: Mindset+Toolset+Skillset = Assets.
In this book, I will teach you how I changed my mindset on money, with the necessary toolsets, and developed some Skillsets which eventually culmulated into assets.
Plus twenty MONEY MINDSET PRINCIPLES to follow and change the way you think about money.
