Since in my life seeing people drive supercars like Ferraris, Lamborghinis, and Rolls-Royces, I have always thought about having one of these cars of my own.
This is because I thought such luxurious cars do send a strong signal to people that you made it.
That you are smart and rich. You are a person of taste, substance, and importance. Which means people will always look at me.
The ironic part of it is that I never looked at who drives those supercars. And this attitude applies to anyone who sees them drive those super-cars and pass by.
Often when you see them you rarely think, “Wow, the guy driving that nice car is cool.” Instead, your thought always becomes … “Wow, if I had that gorgeous car people would think I’m cool.”
Knowingly(Consciously) or unknowingly(subconsciously) this is how people think when seeing them drive those nice cars.
It is a known fact that people tend to want wealth as a show-off for liking them and equally as an admiration from others.
But the reality is that those other people will always bypass admiring you, not because they don’t like wealth or think wealth is not admirable.
But because people will always use your show-off wealth as a benchmark for their desire to be liked and admired assuming they are the ones who possess what you had. It is a natural occurrence that can occur in both conscious and subconscious states.
So the idea of thinking that you want an expensive car, a fancy watch, and a huge house is what people will respect you for, will not always come into play.
I guess what you want from people is respect and admiration, and thinking that having expensive stuff will bring it to you is a fallacy.
Truly, people who drive those fancy cars along my street do throw their heads around to see who is gawking, and I’m one of those guys who do gawk when I see them drive by.
And by the appearance on their faces, I can tell that they loved the admiration and felt admired. But little did they know that I don’t even care about them, or even notice them. Little did they know I always was gawking at the car and imagining myself being in the driver’s seat.
Certainly, I know that these folks bought their supercars thinking that it would bring them admiration without even realizing that I, and most others who are moved by the cars, didn’t give them the owners a moment of thought.
This same idea is also applicable to owners of big houses, jewelry, and clothes as well.
And I pray you should understand my point in this discussion. I don’t mean you should abandon the pursuit of wealth and fancy cars, I’m in love with them all.
No two ways about it, people generally aspire to be respected and admired by others including me the writer. But take note that using money to buy fancy things may bring less of it than you can imagine.
So brethren, if respect and admiration are your goal, be careful how you seek it.
To gain respect and admiration, you have to seek humility, kindness, and empathy.
These will bring you more respect than Horsepower will ever do in life.
